Surf Air Launches Black Friday Promotion

In an interesting marketing effort, Los Angeles-based subscription-based airline Surf Air is looking to attract more subscribers to its service, through a Black Friday sale. The company did not say what kinds of promotions it would offer--only putting up a signup page for its offers requesting an email and phone number --however, it appears to be a fairly unconventional approach to attracting the high-end subscribers who use its service.

Semtech Deploys On Mallorca

Camarillo-based analog and mixed-signal semiconductor maker Semtech said this morning that has deployed its LoRa lower power, wireless networking devices as part of an Internet-of-Things (IoT) deployment on the island of Mallorca, in Spain. According to Semtech, IOTLABS, a developer of Internet-of-Things services, has launched an application on Mallorca which uses Semtech's LoRa technology to provide monitoring of water levels and air quality in real time on the island.

PlayVS Adds $30.5M For High School eSports Network

Los Angeles-based PlayVS has raised $30.5M in a Series B funding, to continue buildout of its high school, eSports network, the company said this week, led by the Los Angeles Dodgers ownership group. The funding also included New Enterprise Associates, Science Inc, Crosscut Ventures, Adidas, Samsung, P. Diddy, Rich Dennis, David Drummund of Alphabet, and Rahul Mehta.
