Hawthorne-based space rocket developer SpaceX is targeting launch of yet another Falcon 9 rocket later today, from NASA Kennedy Space Center, after a launch delay over the long weekend. SpaceX, which aborted its launch on Sunday due to "violation of abort criteria", is planning to launch the Intelsat 35e at 7:37 p.m. EDT (3:37 p.m. PDT) today. According to SpaceX, the launch from Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) is expected to deploy the Intelsat satellite approximately 32 minutes after launch.

Goleta-based Resonant , which develops radio frequency filter technology, said on Wednesday that they have named Jean Rankin as a board member. Rankin previously was Executive Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel for LSI Corporation, and also served at Agere Systems, Lucent Technologies, and AT&T. Beverly Hills-based Kairos Venture Partners , a venture capital investment firm that specifically focuses on commercialization of scientific discoveries, has raised $74.6M as part of an ongoing fundraising effort for its second fund, Kairos Venture Partners II, LP. The funding was disclosed via a regulatory filing. That filing says that Kairos Venture Partners is targeting a total of $150M in the new fund, which so far has 47 Limited Partners.

Virgin Galactic , the commercial spaceflight startup backed by Richard Branson, is planning to ramp up its flight testing schedule with the beginning of powered flights, according to Branson. Branson told Bloomberg, in an interview published on Wednesday, that it plans to start powered tests every three weeks this year, with a plan to extend testing into space by November of December.

Hawthorne-based SpaceX delivered another payload into space on Wednesday, sending the Intelsat 35e into geostationary transfer orbit (GTO), on its third try. The satellite had originally been scheduled to launch on Sunday, but ran into weather, and the rescheduled launch on July 3rd was aborted due to "violation of abort criteria". Sylmar-based Second Sight Medical Products said this morning that it has entered the South Korean market, after its visual prosthetics products were implanted into two patients in that country. According to Second Sight Medical, the implants were facilitated by distribution partner Kisantech Co. Second Sight Medical, led by CEO Will McGuire, says it is in the midst of an effort to expand its footprint in Asia.

Sienna said it is hoping to raised up to $74.8M in an offering on the NASDAQ Global Market. The company has applied to list as SNNA. The IPO is being underwritten by J.P. Morgan, Cowen, and BMO Capital Markets.
