I suffer from the “urgency addiction.&# I know it sounds like one of the falsely humble things like telling somebody in a job interview that your weakness is that you’re too much of a perfectionist. But the urgency addiction is a bad thing that I’m fortunate enough to get away with. When I first discovered the concept I found it enlightening.

Pasadena-based eHarmony , the online dating site, said today that it has run a study which determined that on average, there are 542 people married every day in the U.S. due to the web site. The firm said it it studeied marriages between January 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009, and concluded 542 people were married every day in the United States due to the site's efforts.

This is a distinction we need to repeat on occasion, especially for new CEO’s looking to pay a low wage for advanced financial analysis, whether with an independent contractor or an employee. Accountants are trained, certified and usually quite experienced in financial analysis, both creating and reviewing data. Bookkeepers are often trained on the job although sometimes more formally, and handle the physical work of accounting for the transactions.

Jason Calacanis , the high profile CEO of Mahalo, and angel investor, has made an investment in Georgia-based StorkBrokers , an online community site focused on new mothers and fathers. The investment was worth $25,000, and Calacanis has joined the firm's board. When I heard a friend make this statement the other day, I realized that every entrepreneur should adopt it as their mantra. I certainly have. If we all do it, we can drastically improve the statistic that over half of new startups fail within five years. Nothing is more discouraging to future entrepreneurs than a failed startup. Why do most startups fail?

Yesterday I wrote a post about the " Urgency Addiction ” and how many people start important tasks late and then motivate with a huge wave of productivity and inspiration driven by deadlines and commitments to others. In the comments section Bill DAllesandro offered some insight that he had seen from Microsoft on "interruptions”. “A study by Microsoft showed just how lethal interruptions are to productivity.

Pasadena-based TweetUp , the Twitter advertising firm owned by Idealab, said today that it has linked its Twitter Client, Twidroyd, to the TweetPhoto media sharing service. Twitter said its client--which runs on Android devices--provides full integration of TweetPhoto, including uploading of photos, voting, commenting, and geo-tagging features. Santa Monica-based Total Beauty Media 's John Hadl has joined venture capital firm U.S. Venture Partners , USVP said today, on the heels of the acquisition of USVP's LimeLife by Total Beauty. According to U.S. Venture Partners, Hadl has been appointed as Venture Partner on the firm's Consumer Internet and Business Services investment team. Hadl is also CEO of Brand-in-Hand (BIH), a provider of mobile advertising to brands.

San Luis Obispo-based Mindbody Software has confirmed that it has raised $14M in a new funding round for the firm's health and wellness business management software. According to the firm, the new round of funding came from Bessemer Venture Partners and Catalyst Investors, and is made up of an immediate $11M initial tranche, plus an additional $3M option that may be exercised anytime within the next 36 months.

Altadena-based Perfect Market , the Idealab firm which is providing tools to help publishers surface and monetize their archive content, said Monday that it has named Guy Vidra as Vice President of Business Development. Vidra was most recently at Washington Post Digital, and also has served at 2ergo Americas and Oddcast. Perfect Market said Vidra will lead the firm's strategic partnership and customer programs.

The Hidden Impact of Technology on our Everyday Lives … There’s an old (semi true) parable about frogs boiling in water. While not literal it’s a fun and instructive metaphor for change. It goes like this: if you put a frog in boiling water it will sense the hot water and immediately jump out yet if you put it into cold water and very gradually turn up the temperature in the water the frog won’t notice and will stay in until it has boiled to death.

Los Angeles-based MySpace , the online social networking site, said today that it has named Rosabel Tao as its Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications. Tao was most recently running her own consulting practice, serving clients such as Current Media, PopSugar Media, Spot Runner and REVShare. MySpace said she also served as VP of Corporate Communications at Spot Runner, as well as served in roles at Bank of America, Golin Harris, Weber Shandwick, and Fleischman-Hillard.

San Diego-based Anametrix , a developer of cloud-based business analytics software, said today that it has received new funding and added a slate of well known advisors. Details on the new private investment was not disclosed. According to Anametrix, it has added Michael Roberston , Fred Bourgeois , Neil Senturia , Eric Otterson , Gavin Mandelbaum and Laurent Asscher to its advisory board.
