DivX Takes Aim At Amazon, Vizio

San Diego-based DivX, which holds patents in the area of video compression and encoding, is targeting both Amazon and Vizio in a new lawsuit. DivX is asking the U.S. International Trade Commission to block imports of video streaming devices sold by Amazon and Vizio, claiming patent infringement by the two; it has also filed lawsuits in Virginia and California backing that move.

According to bp pulse, bp's electric vehicle charging business, it is planning to launch a network of EV fast-charging hubs for ride-hail fleets, based near airports and other high-demand U.S. locations.

Zoe Aims At Social VR, Metaverse

Los Angeles-based Zoe Immersive said today that it is looking to launch a new platform, which will allow people to create their own, social virtual reality experiences. According to the startup, its new, no-code interface will work with Meta, launching on Meta Quest 2 and compatible with Meta Quest Pro. Apex Space Snags $7.5M For Satellite Technology

Los Angeles-based Apex Space, a startup working on satellite technology, has raised $7.5M in a seed funding round. The funding was led by Andreessen Horowitz, and also included XYZ Venture Capital, J2 Ventures, Lux Capital and Village Global. Apex Space says it is working on the "satellite bus", the part of spacecraft that is used to host satelite payloads.

Lytx Ties Into Daimler Trucks

San Diego-based video telematics provider Lytx has inked a new collaboration deal with Daimler Truck North America, the two said last week. According to the company--whose camera systems are used for monitoring driver safety--the company's systems will be integrated into select Freightliner and Western Star truck models, and can be ordered directly from the Daimler factory. The two said the first trucks to incorporate its products will be built in early 2023.

TrueCar Launches Auto Accessories Marketplace

Santa Monica-based TrueCar has launched a new, auto accessories marketplace, which it says allows its buyers to choose from more than 12,000 hardware parts, customized to the online vehicle a buyer is purchasing. According to the company, the new service, TrueCar+, uses VIN-specific fit information to match accessories with any of its vehicles in inventory, and can add those accessories into lease and financing of its new and used vehicles.

Amplifica Adds $11.8M For Hair Loss Treatments

San Diego-based biopharmaceuticals firm Ampllifica, which is developing treatments for androgenic alopecia (hair loss) in both male and female patients, says it has raised $11.8M in a Series A funding round. The company said the funding came via SternAegis Ventures, the private equity and venture capital division of Aegis Capital Corporation. The company said the funding will go to enable clinical development of its lead products.
