Google Releases High Resolution Montecito Disaster Satellite Map

Google and its navigation app subsidiary, Waze, have just released incredibly detailed satellite maps of the disaster zone around Montecito, California, as part of efforts of Google's "Crisis Response" team. The maps allow residents and others of the city--a big chunk of which is still evacuated due to lack of access, water, food, electricity, natural gas and other utilities, plus ongoing recovery operations--to get a very close look at the damage across the city from the debris flows which hit overnight on Tuesday, January 9th. The maps are detailed enough that fire and rescue units can be seen searching houses for victims of the debris and mud flow. Pictured: rescue units searching in the vicinity of what was the Cantin residence in Montecito, site of a known missing person and a number of fatalities.
