Google had no clue that they were going to make so much money in sponsored search. Geni.com beget Yammer. We’ve proven that through innovation and experimentation we can do significantly more revenue than we’re getting through Google AdSense. They really just copied and out executed Overture (originally goto.com).

I literally have been switching from my Blackberry, to my iPhone, to my PC, back to the iPhone and on and on it goes.

Instead, they are using Outlook's address book, and Google contacts to communicate. The thing is, today, if you use Google, you have contacts, calendar, and email. Now, you don't have to go to Twitter to listen, LinkedIn to listen, your email inbox, find contacts in Google Contacts, or even Yammer or Hootsuite.

In my estimation this is one of the biggest strategic mistakes Google has made in not competing more aggressively with AWS. Google – They have led the deflationary pressure on advertising, bringing whole industries into chaos.

To this day I’m astounded that IBM, Google, Sun, Microsoft and others didn’t offer this service and Amazon did. But the cloud-based stuff that we use every day as consumers (websites, Twitter, Facebook, Zynga) or as businesses (dropbox, gmail, Yammer, GoToMeeting) all rely on business logic created by application companies.
