Hyperloop Transportation Technologies Creates Joint Venture In Germany

Playa Vista-based Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HTT), the hyperloop technology developer led by Dirk Ahlborn, has created a joint venture with a German company, Hamburger Hafen und Logistik Aktiengesellschaft (HHLA), which is the biggest container terminal operator in the Port of Hamburg. According to the two, the new joint venture will focus on using hyperloop technology for what the two called the largest rail port in Europe, and also will look to extend that technology to other ports, shipping, and logistics companies worldwide. Financial details of the joint venture were not announced. The companies said the first step of the project, will be an initial study on connecting a cargo-based Hyperloop system from an HHLA container terminal to container yards located further inland, thereby expanding the port's capacity, while reducing congestion within the port and city area. HTT, like most of the other companies working on hyperloop systems, has a lot of study and evaluation deals, but are still very early on any actual implementation of a hyperloop system. One of the closest companies to a working hyperloop system in Elon Musk's The Boring Company, which has a test tunnel bored underneath Los Angeles.
