Tech Coast Angels: 7 New Deals, 17 Follow-On Investments In 2009

The Tech Coast Angels said today that the angel group invested in seven new deals, and seventeen follow-on deals in 2009, a total of $4.7M in investments. Last year, the TCA said it invested in 15 first-time fundings in firms, and 16 follow-on funding rounds.

TCA Hits $1B In Investments

The Tech Coast Angels , Southern California's largest angel investment group, disclosed this morning that it has finally reached the $1 billion mark in investments received by its portfolio firms. The TCA also said that it invested $75M in 2008, across 15 first-time financings and 16 follow-on rounds.

Last night I attended the inaugural Open Angel Forum event started by Jason Calacanis , a fellow LA resident. Jason started the Open Angel Forum in response to his frustration that entrepreneurs were being charged by some angel organizations to present at their events. I think most great angel investing is done at a local level.

Good idea & plan: You must start with a good idea and a PowerPoint deck (my outline is here , scroll down mid way). And a great product starts with the founder. They know that the money they invest may be lost. Their name alone is enough to get meetings set up. I’ll make my next posting shorter. I get that.
