It's way easier to get your pages setup in these languages than by choosing Java alone. Of course, I'm not sure that anyone chooses Java alone. And when a VC asks if you are building it in Ruby - be prepared with a smart answer. They start with lots of other things. Still there's no doubt that some aspects come quickly.

PIM based on Java that would be up-to-date on all your devices. Server and client in Java. Java as a platform wasn't ready to deliver on client side. Some other points - LAMP,Net, Java - doesn't make much difference. In second venture - compared Salesforce.com vs. S3 - as platform. I would tend to agree.
