Integra Devices Spins Out Of UCI


The startup, co-founded by UCI professor Mark Bachman, says its micro-devices are aimed at being readily integrated into conventional electronic products, and builds on 15 years of research at UC Irvine and elsewhere into the technology. Irvine-based Integra Devices , a startup developing microfabrication technology for developing microsensors, microactuators, microfluidics, and microcontrollers, has spun out of UC Irvine, the company said this week.

Thesan Pharmaceuticals Raises $16M


Thesan is headed by Gordon Foulkes, and said it has licensed its products from the University of California, Irvine, out of the laboratory of Professor Daniele Piomelli, who is Louise Turner Arnold Chair of Neurosciences at UCI. San Diego-based Thesan Pharmaceuticals said today that it has raised $16M in a Series A round, for the firm's developing of treatments for dermatological disorders. The firm said the funding was co-led by Novo Ventures and Novartis Venture Funds.

The first product is an iOS app, and that app is currently a live beta on the app store. At that time we'll be launching our second product, an iMessage extension. There are lots of music and messaging apps out there, but is there room for an app which makes music the message?
