Eyenuk In Pilot For Eye Screening For Devlyn Optical

Los Angeles-based Eyenuk, which develops systems that use artificial intelligence (AI) and software to detect diabetic retinopathy (DR), says it is in a pilot to provide eye screening to Devlyn Optical, a spin-off of Grupo Devlyn, an optical retailer that has a network of over a thousand stores in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and the US. Financial details of the deal were not announced, however, the two said they will collaborate on a pilot of diabetic retinopathy (DR) screening services at Devlyn's retail locations. The company says the use of its eye screening will help reduce the need for opthalmoscopy, which requires a person with diabetes to sit in a dark room so an eyecare professional can exam the back part of the eye through an ophthalmoscope--which requires prolonged and close contact between an individual and eye care professional.
