RealD Hits 15,000 Screens

Los Angeles-based RealD, the developer of 3D movie projection technology, reported today that it has now surpassed 15,000 installs of its 3D Cinema System at motion picture theaters worldwide. The firm said the numbers make it the industry's largest 3D cinema platform. The installations included 8,600 domestic screens, and 6,500 international screens. The company explained that its screens installed has grown by 182 percent in the last 12 months. RealD's technology is used to project 3D films at theaters. RealD went public in July of last year based on its rapid growth--RealD debuted its technology just about five years ago, initially installing on about 100 screens. The firm's growth has been driven by a wholesale shift at movie theaters to 3D films.
