I recently had a conversation with an pre-launch startup where they discussed how SEO was going to be really important for them. And to me, there seems to be a lot of confusion by founders of startups around search engine optimization (SEO) and how it works for a startup. I won't say that I'm truly an expert on SEO.
In essence Muhammad thinks the “growth hacking” is a charlatan term for online marketing that consists of a bunch of everyday tasks that all online businesses should be doing: SEO, SEM, Content Marketing, SocialMedia, Referral Marketing, etc. “How many legs does a dog have if you call the tail a leg?
Some days I respond to questions asked by folks like yourself, the press, or an entity doing a case study, i.e. Citrix, RIM, USC. So they create a task list of all the marketing activities an organization can do: press releases, web site updates, customer case studies, blog posts, daily Tweets, Facebook fan page, attending conferences, etc. They’re tasked with doing … marketing. You get a lot of traffic – not always results.

Hands down, the absolute gold mine of how to be found when someone types words into the google search bar is “ The Art of SEO ” by Stephan Spencer , Eric Enge , Rand Fishkin and Jessie Stricchiola. There was a recent study which showed that adding a video makes it 53 times more likely that you'll have a Google first page search result. Normally, SEO is not cheap, and video is a very affordable way to boost your businesses search engine optimization, and help you to get discovered.
Equally, hoping to unseat TripAdvisor without understand their SEO strengths and how much it would cost to knock them down would be naïve. That marketing can be PR or SEO or influencer distribution or other forms of “unpaid” marketing. You may have paid marketing: SEM, SocialMedia Ads, Banner Ads, email lists, etc.

Blogs help because sites that update data frequently get higher SEO rankings. Studying other people’s blogs will help you identify what you like and don’t like, and how you want yours to look and feel. When you post to a blog multiple times each week, you content is constantly changing and growing. Anchor the blog in your domain name.
