Tech Coast Venture Network $25K Pitch Competition
In the past, the competition allowed anyone to participate in the initial round of 30-second pitches to investors and experts. However, since the event has grown, TCVN added a pre-event round. President Ash Kumra wanted a more qualitative approach. “If [the entrepreneurs] want it badly enough, they are going to have to work harder to get it.”
More and more startup competitions are popping up in the relatively young and thriving startup tech scene of Southern California. These include the many pitch competitions, hackathons, Startup Weekends and others. Prizes vary from competition to competition including, credit for co-working spaces, free hosting accounts, gift cards, scholarships to incubators and at times even nothing more than just bragging rights. Most entrepreneurs in a startup struggle to get that initial capital needed to execute development of their great idea. As such, local organizations such as TCVNÂ should be commended for their efforts in gathering up their resources of network needed to deliver a substantial cash prize for deserving startups. “Every little bit of funding at the start helps,” says John Junyszek of Spawnd, a social platform for video game players.
