USC Viterbi: 44 Percent of Entering Engineering Class Is Female

The University of Southern California's Viterbi School of Engineering says that its new, entering class of students to the school is 44 percent female--significantly higher than the national average--thanks to its efforts to reach out to women and other underrepresented minorities in engineering. According to USC Viterbi, that number is a historic high for the school. USC said that, in part, the increase in females in its program comes due to an effort called the Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) program. Overall, USC Viterbi said female students account for nearly 40 percent of its entire undergraduate class, about double the national average of 18 to 20 percent.
