Intuit Chops 120 In Woodland Hills

Financial software developer Intuit is cutting 120 employees in Woodland Hills, according to a state Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, part of a larger cut involving locatoins in Illinois, Virginia, and Arizona. Intuit had sold much of its Woodland Hills operations, Intuit Financial Services, to private equity firm Thoma Bravo back in July of 2013.

Woodland Hills Firm Leads Circuit City Closure Efforts

A Woodland Hills-based liquidation firm is behind the closure of Circuit City's 567 stores, and will lead a group of firms who are operating "goiong out of business" sales at the retailer. Woodland Hills-based Great American Group is part of a joint venture that also includes SB Capital Group, LLC, Tiger Capital Group, LLC, and Hudson Capital Partners, LLC to operate the going-out-of-business sales at Circuit City's stores.

Indose Inhales $3.5M In Funding From Snoop Dogg's Casa Verde

Woodland Hills-based Indose , a startup developing a vape device for THC and cannabis, has raised $3.5M in a Series A funding round, according to the company. The funding came from Casa Verde Capital, the cannabis investment fund run by Snoop Dogg. According to Indose, it has developed a vape pen technology which provides a measured dose of THC to the user. According to the company, it has created an "individualized, controlled vannabis vaping experience".

FTD Files Chapter 11: Long, Complex Path Through SoCal's Tech Industry

FTD was spun out from Woodland Hills-based United Online back in November of 2013, after a complex relationship with United Online--better known for running such companies as Classmates, NetZero, MyPoints, Juno, and StayFriends. In long, complicated path that wound through Southern California's high tech industry, flower delivery network operator FTD has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Gannett Co.'s ReachLocal Arm Acquires SweetIQ Analytics

Woodland Hills-based ReachLocal , the digital marketing service now owned by Gannett Co. , has acquired SweetIQ Analytics Corp. , a developer of software for location and reputation management. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. Gannett Co. said the acquisition will help it accelerate its product roadmap and expand the ReachLocal digital marketing suite of products. SweetIQ's headquarters are in Montreal, Quebec, and it also has a sales office in Irvine.

United Online Names EVP, General Counsel

Woodland Hills-based United Online said Friday that it has named Mark Harrington as the company's new Executive Vice President and General Counsel. Harrington was most recently Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary of Guidance Software, and also has served at Intel Corporation, Trillium Digital Systems, Munger, Tolles & Olson and Ticketmaster. ReachLocal Acquired By Gannett For $156M

Woodland Hills-based ReachLocal is being acquired by publishing giant Gannett Co. , in a deal worth approximately $156M, the two companies said on Monday afternoon. ReachLocal said Gannett would pay $4.60 per share in cash for the company. VantagePoint Venture Partners and Rho Ventures--who own approximately 40% of ReachLocal--said it had agreed to tender their shares to Gannett as part of the acquisition deal.

BlackLine Soars In IPO Debut

Woodland Hills-based BlackLine Software , the developer of accounting close software, soared in its IPO debut on Friday, and was trading up more than 45 percent in morning trading on the NASDAQ Global Select Market. BlackLine was trading around $24.79 at around 12:50PM EDT, up $7.79 from its IPO debut price of $17.00 per share. BlackLine had already priced at the high end of an upped IPO pricing range of between $16.00 to $17.00 per share. BlackLine is now trading as BL.

BlackLine Systems Files For IPO

Woodland Hills-based BlackLine Systems has filed for an IPO, saying in an S-1 filing that it is looking to raise up to $100M in an IPO on the NASDAQ Global Select Market as BL. The IPO is being underwritten by Goldman, Sachs & Co., Morgan, Pacific Crest Securities, Raymond James, William Blair, and Baird. BlackLine is venture backed by Silver Lake Sumeru and ICONIQ, and led by Therese Tucker. Tucker owns around 15.6% of the company.

Woodland Hills-based United Online said Monday afternoon that it has added Kenneth Denman to its board of directors. Denman was the President and CEO of Emotient, and also had served as CEO of Openwave and iPass, along with AuraServ Comunications. Denman also had served at Media One and other companies. Denman replaces Dennis Holt, who had been on the company's board since 2001.

ReachLocal Raises $25M, As Losses Increase

Woodland Hills-based ReachLocal , the publicly held, online marketing provider for small and local businesses, said Tuesday that it has raised $25M in a term loan. The funding came from Herculus Technology Growth Capital, and comes as the company reported sharper losses and a significant dropoff in revenues. ReachLocal said it lost $12.7M on revenues of $99.56M for the first quarter of 2015, compared with a loss of $6.3M on revenues of $124.7M in Q1 of the prior year.

United Online Sells StayFriends

Woodland Hills-based United Online has sold its StayFriends social networking site, to German company Stroer Content Group GmbH , the company said Thursday afternoon. United Online said it will receive 16.0 million euros ($18.3M US) for StayFriends. United Online said the sale is part of a strategy to exit the social media business, and is part of an ongoing evaluation of "strategic alternatives" by JMP Securities and work by ACXIT Capital Management.

ReachLocal To Help Power Facebook Deal Test
