Encodia Gets $75M In Series C

San Diego-based Encodia, a biotech company which is focused on proteomics research, has raised $75M in a Series C funding round, the company said this week. The funding was led by Northpond Ventures and Deerfield Management, and also included GV, Alexandria Venture Investments, plus ARCH Venture Partners, Biomatics Capital, Decheng Capital, Tao Capital Partners, and Nan Fung Life Sciences. As part of the funding, Sharon Kedar of Northpond and Dr. Andrew ElBardissi of Deerfield Management have joined the company's board of directors. The foudners of Encodia are Dr. Mark Chee (President), Dr. Kevin Gunderson (CTO), and Dr. Michael Weiner (Board); Chee was a co-founder of Illumina; Gunderson was in charge of Illumina's Advanced Research Group, and Weiner founded AxioMx and is VP Molecular Sciences at AbCam.
