EVgo Shifts To 100 Percent Renewable Power

Los Angeles-based electric vehicle (EV) charging network operator EVgo says it has shifted its operations to use 100 percent renewable power, contracting with its energy suppliers and renewable energy certificate (REC) partners to ensure that all of its chargers are generated from wind and solar energy. According to EVgo, it is the first, EV charging network in the United States to go 100 percent renewable. EVgo said that in California, it is buying 100 percent solar power. EVgo says the U.S. EPA says nearly 30 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions in the United States come from transportation, with the majority coming from passenger cars and other light-duty vehicles; that makes transportation the nation's largest source of carbon emissions and the country's leading contributor to climate change attributed to human activity. One of the criticisms faced by EVs has been the claim that using power generated by non-renewables to charge EVs simply shifts the emissions from vehicles to the power grid.
