SpaceX Delays Launch Of Falcon Heavy To 2018

Hawthorne-based SpaceX has delayed the first launch of its giant, Falcon Heavy rocket to sometime early next year, the company disclosed this week. SpaceX had hoped to launch the big rocket this year. The Falcon Heavy would be the biggest rocket in existence, using 27 of the Merlin D engines--the same engines used in the SpaceX Falcon. SpaceX has said the first launch of the Falcon Heavy will not carry any customer payloads, and Elon Musk has said there is "a lot of risk" with this first flight. SpaceX had originally planned to have its first launch of the Falcon Heavy in November. Image: SpaceX illustration of the Falcon Heavy.
