Chipotle Taps Online Promotions To Help Raise Money For Students

Newport Beach-based restaurant chain Chipotle Mexican Grill says it is launching an online effort and promotions, to help support under-resource students who are returning to school, in a shift from the company's usual nonprofit fundraising effort. According to the company, it is launching a digital fundraising program--its first--to help with fundraisers, with an effort to donate laptops to students in need. The company said the digital fundraiser is new, as it has been impacted by limitations with in-restaurant dining; the company previously had offered up fundraising to nonprofits and groups through in-person and takout dining, which it says has raised over $50M over nearly a decade for those groups. Chipotle said its new digital fundraising effort will support students across the country by donating 33% of fundraiser event sales back to local educational organizations using unique promotional codes. The company also said that from now until September 28th, guests can "round-up" their change to the next higher dollar in its app to support Kids In Need Foundation, which buy slaptops and school supplies to under-resourced junior high and high school students across the U.S.
