Luna DNA, Led By Illumina Vets, Raises $2M For Blockchain Startup

San Diego-based Luna DNA, a new genomic information startup based on the Blockchain protocol, and led by veterans of Illumina, sas it has raised $2M in a seed funding round. According to Luna DNA, the funding came from individual investors and former executives from DNA sequencing equipment developer Illumina. Luna DNA says it is developing a genomic and medical research knowledge base powered by the blockchain. Blockchain is the underlying protocol used to power the Bitcoin cryptocurrency. Luna DNA's CEO and co-founder Bob Kain is the former Chief Engineering Officer at Illumina; co-founder David Lewis is formerly of CitiGroup; co-founder Dan Lin was CTO of Redemption Games; and co-founder Michael Witz is former CEO of Redemption Games.
