I've helped organize the Los Angeles CTO Forum for almost 10 years. Most networking events tend to either focus on specific technologies (PHP,Net, C#, Microsoft, LAMP, MySQL, Open Source, Hadoop, Java, etc.) This is a private group of CTOs who are responsible for software development within their companies.

At the CTO Group that I organize in Santa Monica, we've had lots of discussions around this. Interesting term used in a ZD Net article - Platform as a Service (PaaS) Unfortunately, Peter sells the promise and ignores the reality. PIM based on Java that would be up-to-date on all your devices. Server and client in Java.
