I thought the analogy was preposterous back in 2006-2007 but it has become obvious. I was learning Ruby on Rails just ahead of the students and wrote the tools to help them manage the servers in EC2. Towards the end of 2006 I realized that EC2 was transformative and that people needed help understanding it as well as tools to work it.
