The VC market has right-sized (returned back to mid 90′s levels & less competition). Limited Partners or LPs (the people who invest into VC funds) have taken notice as 2014 is by all accounts the busiest year for LPs since the Great Recession began. We’re all socially connected (so great businesses spread faster).

2: As expected at least one person accused me of writing this post because I want to see lower valuations. If you invested in the first angel round of a startup company it is usually very hard to sell your stock – usually for many years if ever at all. I acknowledged this in the article. I’m just making the commentary.

In the startup world, the former happens when a VC makes a bad investment, and the latter occurs when they miss a great opportunity. In contrast, low-volume, high-conviction investors like Rincon only invests in a handful new companies each year, making it much more costly (in dollars and effort expended) to invest in a loser.

While there is much discussion about VCs starting to pull back on their investments into startups, the LPs we surveyed don’t expect to slow the pace of investment into VC funds themselves – at least for the foreseeable future. …But LPs Have Been Putting Out More Money Than They Are Getting Back.

I will write more about this in the next 2 weeks. million pre-money valuation is now raising $1 million at a $12 million valuation the next investor has nowhere to go but up (or sit out the investment). I said, “It’s much easier now than it was in 2008/09.&# That happened a lot in 2002 and again in 2008.

The VC industry has different segments in it that have different fund sizes, different investment amounts and different risk / return expectations. A new group of investors have clustered around writing earlier-stage, smaller checks. If you’re an angel you invest your own money and you have nobody to answer to except your spouse.
