Sendgrid started in Summer of 2009 at TechStars in Boulder, and we've now grown dramatically to 100 employees and 60,000 customers. David Cohen is a very active blogger and spokesperson, as is Brad Feld. For $79, you get 100,000 emails, and you're able to control your own IP address. Controlling your IP address is a big deal.

We have one, major original IP game in development, and a couple of weeks ago we announced a publishing deal with Zynga to publish our new game on Facebook and Zynga's own platform. We started working on the new IP, and that's the game we announced the deal with Zynga on. We spoke with CEO Michael Witz about the company.

In a world where the economy only heads in one direction (read: 2009-2014) most investors & entrepreneurs forget to pay attention to gross burn. So money spent should add equity value or create IP that eventually will.

We're really excited about 2009. We are not looking to fund people in 2009, who are learning a new market, on our nickel. Defensibility is also big--we're not interested in the me-too's without some unique IP. In 2009, we will have way more deals than in 2008, and we hope to be able to be announcing some in the next four weeks.

Those crappy bots not only cost you money because they keep your server busy and increase your bandwidth bill, they actively decrease your advertising revenue because your visitors hit the back button when your page isn’t responsive due to the heavy bot traffic.
