It’s really hard to zig when the whole world seems to be zagging. While many of my friends bragged about their 5 condos in Florida I kept talking about how the real estate market was in a bubble – their gains an illusion. above inflation yet in many markets in the US & Europe prices were rising at 10-25% per year.

Yesterday, Santa Monica-based SharesPost (www.sharespost.com) launched a new service of particular interest to the venture capital and high tech startup market, a new, online service which facilitates the buying and selling of private company stock. We co-founded Zag together, and I was the COO of CarsDirect.

Of course, you can always argue that each was just in the right place at the right time, or was lucky, or had a rich uncle to get them started, but it would be smarter to listen to the messages: You need enough capital and a little more. Everything isn’t going to go well in the first couple of years, and you need to get to cash flow positive.
