Los Angeles-based Cedars Sinai is one of the major backers of a new startup, Censinet , in the company's Series A funding. The funding also included seed investors Schooner Capital, LRVHealth and Excelerate Health Ventures. According to Censinet, it raised $7.8M Censinet is led by founder and CEO Ed Gaudet.

Fouad ElNaggar , a former venture capitalist who had been responsible for the Los Angeles office of Redpoint Ventures, has scored funding for a new startup, Sapho. in a Series A funding, which was led by Alsop Louie Partners. However, Metacloud (www.metacloud.com), a startup providing private cloud services, is looking to change the equation and make it much easier for companies to deploy their own private clouds. The company announced a funding round from Canaan Partners, Storm Ventures, and AME Cloud a couple of weeks ago.
