A number of teams have recently been looking to turn that vision into reality, as a result of the Qualcomm Tricorder Prize , a $10M competition being run by the X Prize Foundation to create a real life Tricorder. That''s essentially how the Tricoder competition was formed--it''s time for this to happen. It was announced in the 90''s.

We actually have a very big Wordpress user base, because of the work we''ve done with Wordpress, contributing code and integrating them into our platform. We saw early on that the cloud as we know it today--utility services, software, and so on--was an entry point to do that, including with hosting. So, for us, competition is good.

It says that selling an airplane ticket for $500 and getting paid a $5 fees by the airlines (1% gross margin) is not the same thing as selling $500 of software that you built (>90% gross margin). Sam did all this analysis before even deciding to build V1 of his software and before we put serious money behind him launching.
