Cloud storage is a competitive market, with dozens of cloud storage providers hoping to gain a big chunk of the market. Our product name is IDrive, which is a consumer and small business facing, online backup and storage service. We also have a mobile version of the product, Idrive Lite, which is primarily used to back up contacts.

It’s a very product that allows you to do visual search of eBay, ETSY, Match.com, AllRecipes and several others sites. It’s a cool product and worth checking out. Current round: $8.1mm in Series C by S3 Ventures (lead), Adams Capital Mgmt, Triangle Peak Partners. Competition: Apple iPhone App Store Genius.

When we talk about cloud computing we have to be careful to differentiate between open cloud (services the are provided solely to for the economic purpose of building a cloud business) and the “platform cloud&# where certain service providers offer cloud services wrapped around their core product. These are very different.

Innovation in the end is about creating products, but largely the federal government doesn't make products; it buys them. So it may be fair to posit that after most of the research and discovery happens, people in the government wonder why it takes so long – and costs so much – to get a prototype or a finished product.
