San Diego-based SweetLabs , the startup formerly known as OpenCandy, said today that it has launched a $50,000 contest which will reward web developers for creating desktop applications for its Pokki desktop app environment. SweetLabs launched Pokki in June, aiming at creating smartphone app-like environment on PC desktops.

The firm said today that it has launched a beta of Pokki , a platform which lets web developers create desktop apps, using languages such as HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript.
