A very interesting topic, especially for those of us involved in developing for start-ups. Especially when there are things like: Amazon S3 / EC2 / AWS outage this morning. Level 1 & 2 Burden is still on the developers, you still have infrastructure. Interestingly it was same developers in both companies. It's funny.

Publishers can come and snap valuable data into our website, to augment end user's experience, and developers can help user our data and our API to build more innovative applications, and to be more productive because of the significant availability of this trusted data. That makes the lives of developers difficult. Is this similar?

They started by offering cloud storage (S3) on a super cheap, pay-as-you consume basis. The biggest media attention in our industry went to the so-called “super angels&# during the 2009/10 timeframe and while I don’t believe there is such thing as a super angel I believe that much media attention was deserved.

Yes, social networks of 2010 have much better usability, have better developed 3rd-party platforms and many more people are connected. It launched open API’s and created a platform whereby third-party developers could come build any app they wanted and Facebook didn’t even want (yet) to take any money from them to do so.
