RightScale said the new software helps companies deploy, monitor, and manage grid processing applications in the cloud. The new software connects into Amazon AWS, and its EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud), SQS (Simple Queue Service), and S3 (Simple Storage Service) to coordinate grid processing.

Our chief architect, Ryan Lissack, wanted to store our data in Amazon’s new (at the time) storage product called S3 that enabled us to store all our data in their facility and we’d pay by the MBs uploaded / downloaded. At the time we viewed Amazon’s offering, EC2 as too nascent. I was dead set against it.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see how big people like Match.com and eHarmony became on the trend of helping us find our dating partners and why this would be improved my mobile, social networks. At the bottom end of the stack is storage (S3) and processing (EC2).
