Startup Founders really need to see these numbers. Many of us are putting more into the front-end and having the application logic and back-end exposed through JavaScript (JSON) APIs. I was also surprised by the performance improvement on dedicated hardware as compared to EC2 instances of roughly 10x.

This is an EC2 test run on a pair of Large instances. Netty , Vert.x , and Java servlets are fast, but we were surprised how much faster they are than Ruby , Django , and friends. Application performance can be directly mapped to hosting dollars, and for a start-up company in its infancy, hosting costs can be a pain point.
