Twiistup 6 has come to an end. Out is the “cocktail only&# Twiistup and in is the new format of a conference that should take its rightful place on the national technology calendar. I believe that Twiistup is now a platform from which to grow and highlight what is uniquely LA. Much of this was highlighted at Twiistup.

And we’re left with a city with idyllic weather, major commerce, the media center of the world, and a great emerging technology scene. DemandMedia has already scaled a tech team to a considerable size in Santa Monica. But ultimately we’re on the Internet to communicate, buy stuff, become informed and be entertained.

I recently hosted a panel at the Twiistup Conference about LA tech companies. Here it seems that entrepreneurs are coming out of business school, transitioning from corporate life, or hail from the entertainment industry. Whereas in Silicon Valley, you can have a V.1 That’s typically not the case in Los Angeles.

Tech Zulu Event

Friday evening, August 19th, rolled around and Startup Weekend LA was underway with attendees showing up at Coloft in Santa Monica around 6:00 pm and the classic Idealab keg there to quench everyone’s thirst. Also a big thanks to Efren Toscano of TechZulu for streaming and editing the event Sunday evening.
