Sherman Oaks-based Serviz , the on-demand home services company founded by serial entrepreneurs Zorik Gordon and Michael Kline, has been acquired by Porch , another online marketplace for home services. Gordon and Kline previously founded ReachLocal. Porch said the acquisition will help it expand its end-to-end home services solutions.

We were talking about a company, Factual (disclosure my firm is an investor), which was founded by one of LA’s most talented Internet entrepreneurs, Gil Elbaz , who as co-founder of Applied Semantics (purchased by pre-IPO Google for $102 million and now Google AdSense) is responsible for a large portion of the Internet’s monetization.

I kind of think LA is just LA and doesn’t need some clever marketing term. A market leader in content, music, entertainment, textiles, engineering, aerospace and trade. Home of JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory), which helps put rockets into space. That’s OK with me. But I think Brad actually has a point.

In SoCal we are also leaders in affiliate marketing (Commission Junction), Internet video (Hulu) and bringing local businesses online (ReachLocal). My favorite Rogers line was, “musicians of the future will be entrepreneurs and not employees [of labels].” We have accomplished much yet have much work to do.
