We've made some investments here and there, and are now building a team, and making a lot of investments in SoCal tech companies. I want to invest in entrepreneurs that have the capacity to be number one at whatever they are doing, and do it within our skill base, which is direct-to-consumer. I love entrepreneurs.

We typically do not ask entrepreneurs to visit our offices in Santa Barbara, but Jeff wanted to meet with Kevin, an investor in our Fund who helped us vet opportunities and occasionally invested alongside of us. I believe that it is part of the DNA of an entrepreneur – being so competitive that you’re practically sick when you lose. Entrepreneurs are neurotic about it. They had a prominent NorCal investor already so I thought a SoCal lead would make sense – that I could help them in a more hands-on way.

There is one thing I learned a long time about about setting goals, “you manage what you measure&# so you need to begin by regularly recording your weight. Writing down your weight from your scale is obviously a manual process and it’s tedious. My favorite new software tool is DailyBurn. We’ll see.
