Things got so bad on one project that we ended up doing split shifts with teams of people programming from 8pm-6am and the next team arriving at 8am. Then the unintended consequences started cropping up. We started to realize that that most expensive part of computing was actually manpower. Sound familiar? For 5 minutes.

Up for grabs for first place at this hack was $10k. It took place at the swanky TechZulu Trend lounge that was overlooking Downtown Austin from 18 floors up at the top of the Garden Hilton. Wordpress in particular is fairly resource heavy right out of the box so speeding up everything else is a critical piece of running a site on this platform. The problem with most of the share badges out there is that they load a Javascript file from an external source which can take several seconds on a bad day. Just a thought.
