San Diego-based ScoreStream said today that it has raised $2M in a seed financing round, to bring scores, pictures, and other information about high school and local sports online. The startup--led by technology startup vet Derrick Oien--said the funding was led by Sinclair Digital Ventures, a division of Sinclair Broadcast Group.

We designed K5Launch to fill the void left behind by local angel and VC investors.

My last company got acquired by Qualcomm, and Qualcomm wanted me to move to San Diego to run their emerging business portfolio. I then became and EIR at UC San Diego, and joined EvoNexus, the not-for-profit incubator run by the Irvine Company. I think our board is agreement for the need for more venture capital.

Launchpad is a virtual incubator and accelerator, where we put companies in and give them quantitative and qualitative feedback and mentorship. However, our challenge is that there are not a lot of venture capital investors in Southern California. You see that it's pretty high here in Orange County, as it is in San Diego.
