Los Angeles-based venture capital firm Rustic Canyon is the lead investor in a round of funding from a social shopping site out of Y Combinator. According to Mertado , a social shopping service which links users with home and kitchen products via Facebook said Wednesday that it has raised $2.3M in a Series A round.

Gil Elbaz, who was most recently at Google, was one of the founders of Applied Semantics, a Santa Monica firm which developed Google's AdSense product. Factual said that the partnership will help parents, student, and educators to make more informed decisions, and help transform what were static data tables into interactive, dynamic ones.

In Orange County, the biggest deals were for Irvine-based WaterHealth International , a developer of water purification products with $22.1M Media and Entertainment came in second, with $70.1M--but only because San Diego's SkinIt boosted totals by $60M. raised, and Irvine-based Brand Affinity Technologies , a. in funding.
