Santa Monica-based Image Metrics , a developer of facial animation technology, announced Thursday morning that it has acquired Big Stage , the developer of avatar creation software. Those avatars could be used in virtual worlds, video clips, video games, and for social networking sites. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

In conjunction with the new program, Big Stage said that it has signed on virtual world developer Icarus Studios, and virtual conferencing firm The Venue Network as two companies using the new APIs. Big Stage is backed by Mission Ventures, Selby Venture, and the Tech Coast Angels. READ MORE>>

There are some very cool new features being released all the time as part of the software that powers this system. In other words, it uses what is happening: with the content out in the network with searches that land on the site, what happens when people visit the site, and various other kinds of behaviors.
