Santa Monica-based Userplan has extended the firm's chat applications, saying Tuesday that the firm will connect users of its chat application across different web sites, regardless of where they are on the web. The developer of web widgets said that the cross-platform chat is available on any social networking with an open API.

I worked at Userplane, building social applications for sites like MySpace. We also just recently launched a standard API, which allows any social networking site to use our analytics code. The platforms will be using it to serve ads into their ecosystem, essentially allowing their ad sales teams to sell into their impressions.
