OpenStack is the set of open-source software designed to allow any hosting firm to offer up similar services to Amazon EC2; the OpenStack project was originally based on technology developed by Rackspace and has since spread widely to other ISPs. Debra Chrapaty, who formerly was CIO of Zynga, also served at Cisco as SVP of its Collaboration Software Group, in addition to working at Microsoft and E*TRADE Technologies. The company originally started as a provider of API-based cloud storage (ala Amazon S3) but in recent years has been focused on the enterprise area.

There''s a lot of technology behind the scene, including compression of data transfers, only sending modified blocks, and the threading aspects of our backups. There are many pieces of our technology that make us faster and more efficient. We''re not using third party services such as Amazon S3, which just adds to your cost.
