It would not be a big stretch to image a well run service business like this making 15-25% net profit margins. You own the IP you create. My advice wasn’t to shut down all product / IP initiatives but rather to be clear on their purpose and how to monetize them. That is $12 million in profits over 3 years.

The reference may be well-intentioned, but the lawyer’s allegiance may be divided between the investor and you. Most corporate attorneys can give you general guidance with respect to securing your Intellectual Property (IP) rights, especially with respect to trademarks, copyrights and other non-patent-related items.

This is only an educated hypothesis but I’ll bet it’s pretty close to grounded in reality: Everybody saw “The Social Network” and everybody has a belief that suing will net them millions whether they’re in the right or the wrong. When it involves real or perceived large sums of money, friends sue.

I didn’t mean to be so insulting and I didn’t mean for the net to be cast so wide that many people wondered whether I was talking about them when I was speaking of “job hoppers.&# I learned a lot from reading the comments. They come in the form of personal references. I should have kept it in third person.
