This morning's interview is with Billy Fried , co-founder and CEO of Kijubi (www.kijubi.com), a new startup which is looking to help people find travel activities. I was always perplexed at finding fun activities out there to do. I was in advertising and marketing, working in Newport Beach on the Mazda account.

And in a market with too much capacity (too many startups) the leverage was completely in the hand of buyers at M&A activity finally picked up. While the number of startups has increased exponentially, the number of active venture capitalists has shrunk by more than 2/3rds in the past decade to less than 750 today and still shrinking.

By 2008 I had gotten more serious about championing companies through our investment process. US TV advertising is $60 billion in its own right. It was September 2008. The following is a 2-week graph of the end-of-week price of the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) in Autumn 2008. VCs were very active in this period.

We felt we'd have more impact over time, if we instead focused on people who are one generation younger, still working, and are active. So I actually started a graphic design company out of college, and got lucky with the web taking off at the right time. You don't need a CD, or hardware, it's completely web based.
