Los Angeles-based financial software developer BlackLine Systems said today that it has hired a new, Chief Technology Officer. He also has served at such companies at Stamps.com, Citysearch/Ticketmaster, and TCI/AND Interactive and Packard Bell. According to the enterprise software company, it has named Alain Avakian as its CTO.

Los Angeles-based online advertising technology provider OpenX announced this morning that it has appointed Douglas McPherson, the former General Counsel of Idealab, as its new Chief Legal Officer. He co-founded a prominent accelerator in Los Angeles called MuckerLab , that has produced a number of impressive companies and he mentored more than 20 of them. One of his biggest accomplishments there was championing the acquisition of StubHub. This is exactly the brand that GRP Partners wants to embody. I made some reference calls.

I am taking the lead from GRP and we also invested alongside a number of friends including Dave McClure, Dave Tisch, Ben Smith (Merchant Circle), Brian Lee (ShoeDazzle, LegalZoom), Jason Calacanis, Evan Rifkin, Jennifer Lum, Jay Weintraub and a whole host of other angels. But Ethan had left by the time of the acquisition. Nice sweep!

Los Angeles-based Boingo (www.boingo.com) is one of longest standing Internet companies. It happened that as part of that acquisition, we bought a nice, distributed antenna systems business as well. They were really a thriving, early market.
