As much as the idea of "Silicon Beach" wants to represent the whole of the local technology industry in Los Angeles, there are -- as one would expect in such a large metropolitan area -- many different neighborhoods and communities spread across the region, all with their own individual identities, companies, and technology focuses.

John is not as actively involved in managing startups, but has been a very very active angel--I think he's invested in something like 30 companies as an angel. I came out of Boston Consulting, doing technology and new media consulting, then I went to Citysearch, where I was one of the early executives running bizdev and international.

We both had different types and interests in men and thought it would be great if there was a Citysearch for women based upon types. A blog with our reviews of the scene, locations, etc. Speaking to the LA tech scene as that’s where I am. My number one advice is the need to support other females in tech.

So things that have to be done early get done early, but only at the last possible moment that the early task is due. I wrote out 3 pages of bullet point notes on paper and delivered a 20-minute speech to a crowd of entrepreneurs (which included the Minister of Technology for China). I couldn’t. I hear it all the time.

Seattle should be the envy of any non Silicon Valley tech community in the country. It really wouldn’t take much to turn a great technology ecosystem into a truly electric one. You need to have passionate tech entrepreneurs who want to build businesses locally. The ingredients are all here.
