I've helped organize the Los Angeles CTO Forum for almost 10 years. In a recent conversation with a fellow CTO, we lamented about the fact that while there's very active software development and web development going on in Southern California and West Los Angeles, yet there didn't seem to be as much of a community around it.

With open source software (LAMP stack) and cloud computing infrastructure it just wasn’t that expensive to get your company going and founders just wanted to raise less money. But I’m no longer an entrepreneur – I’m a VC at a $200 million fund called GRP Ventures , the largest active fund in Southern California.

How do you sort through all that social media activity you are driving, and figure out who really cares about what you're posting? Those folks are any tool they can find to help them, any new tool they find. But, they were an HTML app on a LAMP stack. Our goal is to help people spot what is working for them, and optimize.

The interesting thing about working with angels (the tech founder kind) is that they’ve all run their own startups before so there is instant resonance with what you’re going through, the issues you’ll face and how to best help. at a level of specificity you don’t always find in VCs.
