Two Los Angeles area venture capital firms have re-upped their investments in a provider of identity management software. Other investors, aside form Anthem and DFJ Frontier, were RPM Ventures, Tim Draper, and Square 1 Bank. JanRain said it has raised $15.5M both Varma and Cremin sit on JanRain's board of directors.

Two Los Angeles-based venture firms, DFJ Frontier and Anthem Venture Partners , have invested in a Portland software firm developing online identification and single-sign in software. JanRain's software allows for single sign onto web sites, including using OpenID and other standards.

I see it first hand in Los Angeles where given the growth of YouTube networks the worlds of art & technology are colliding. I’ve been meeting with LPs (those who invest in VC funds) over the past year and discussing trends I see in the market and where I think we need to be as a firm to be near to and meet the needs of our customers.

Bill Gross is the man responsible for the overwhelming amount of monetization on the web. I won’t belabor this – I have an investment in this space ( ad.ly ) so I’m biased. I think this classifies as a “crack filler&# and I’m not sure I would have done the investment for that reason. Other Deals.
