From apps to hardware, to KickStarter successes and international startups, we’re inching closer to finding out who will take home the title of Startup of the Year competition at our annual Celebrate Conference in October. Among the dozens of participants that applied for the online competitions, only a few progressed into the semifinals.

Burstly, a Santa Monica based company, provides an open and free ad management platform that helps mobile application developers better monetize their inventory. I don’t intend either, Burstly has respectable and strong competition. I’ll explain in detail below. Enter Burstly. I like that.

The event was sold out, attracting founders, angels, VC’s and future entrepreneurs in the LA Startup Community. The panel of experts not only judged the competition but also gave the companies feedback after their pitch. Divshot is a tool for web application developers.

He saw that the industry was being disrupted globally, and actually started with the idea of building a new company that could be scalable, and flexible, and offer delivery of that content at competitive pricing. We bought our first company in 2017 to create this, and we rolled up a few companies to bring this vision to life.

I ended up representing people like Kobe Bryant, MGM, and others, but I realized I wanted to be an entrepreneur and that it is in my blood. I know that because we were in the print industry, it was important to diversify and to be competitive in the digital age. Was it difficult going from print to mobile application development?

Actually, the latter could be a reasonable strategy for super technical entrepreneurs who can sustain themselves without big financing needs (see: Atebits, owner of Tweetie). Salesforce was very good at managing the 1-year roadmap so at any point in time we had a pretty good idea about what we would be developing and what we wouldn’t.

The movie, “The Social Network” might have had more of an impact on creating future entrepreneurs than any other event of the past 5 years. Yes, it’s true that FOMO (fear of missing out) is driving some irrational behavior and valuations amongst uber competitive deals and well-financed VCs. Thank you, Aaron Sorkin!
