If it seems strange to find the inventor of Bitcoin living in the San Gabriel Valley, it''s actually not all that surprising given the area is home to one of the most prominent research universities in the United States, The California Institute of Technology ; NASA''s Jet Propulsion Laboratory ; and the original Internet incubator, Idealab.

In college at the California Institute of Technology, he patented a new loudspeaker design and formed GNP Loudspeakers, Inc. All of that are in this week’s episode of This Week in VC. He was a life-long entrepreneur and the first business he created out of college (actually, he founded it while he was at Caltech) was a company that manufactured high quality audio speakers. He sold so many that after Caltech he decided to open a retail store.
